Cash & All Major Credit CardsFrom the team that brought us Rococo, Café Lucaya has managed to create a beautiful spot all its own, down on the bottom corner of Water Street. It’s the perfect spot to grab lunch if you work over in the business district of town, or as a tourist on your way down to, or back from, the waterfront. The food is clean and delicious, the staff always friendly, and there’s a steady stream of 80s & 90s pop playing at all times in the background.
The Vibe
A station with free water on a table as you enter, a choice of comfortable sofas and low tables, or high tables and chairs, plants and greenery throughout the large and airy space, Lucaya is a delight on the eye as you walk past, and very inviting as you walk in (it is always bright in there). There is also a bit of privacy if you wish in the mezzanine balcony above the counter. Even when it is at its busiest, Café Lucaya still feels quite big and spacious, that best of both worlds for those looking for a regular café haunt. It is also in prime location to make the most of all types of punter. The playlist is always pop-filled and upbeat, without being too overbearing or intrusive to those having conversations.
The Food
There is something really enticing about ultra clean plates and food that feels clean. You know what we mean don’t you? Sometimes you don’t want a full English breakfast that is dripping in grease and fat, instead you want to look at your plates and feel that everything has been cooked clean and fast, without losing any of the flavour. Every type of food on offer from Lucaya has that homemade feel, but delivered in a clean and precise way. What makes the breakfast for us is that it has a hash brown on it (every place that serves breakfast should have a hash brown on the plate in our opinion!). The panini choices are also magnificent (a shout out to the roasted chicken, pesto, sundried tomato, and mozzarella), and the soup of the day re-invigorating.
The Price
For the full breakfast (The Lucayan) you’ll pay £7.95 for two of everything on the breakfast menu. Not bad at all for a town breakfast we hear you cry, and you’d be right. The Vegetarian breakfast is the same price. Other staple menu items include the Soup of the Day (just under a fiver), big, hearty salads at £6.95, and a wide range of sandwiches and panini at £5.75. The range of tea and coffee is between £2 and £3.
