Offering a taste of the Middle East, Bakchich opened its first location midway up Bold Street, managing to carve out a popular presence in a hub of international eateries.

The array of mouthwatering Lebanese cuisine on offer at Bakchich has made the restaurant one of Liverpool’s most popular and allowed them to recently open a second location in Williamson Square.

The Food

It is a real shame that for much of 2019 the front of Bacaro was covered in scaffolding and surrounded by construction and refurbishment works. Now that is all over and done with though, there is nothing preventing you from spotting it and popping in and trying some of the amazing food on offer. The corner property exudes cool, and feels like the sophisticated Italian bars you find in Venice, where you can sip on a Campari and pick at a range of delicious small plates for a couple of hours at your leisure. It is quite small and always busy, but we find that the staff are always on the best side of attentive and even if you turn up and haven’t booked a table, they will genuinely do their best to find you a table. The classic furnishings and simple décor make it aesthetically-pleasing on the eye, and it is a great place to dine with a date, it’s got that special feeling to it.

The Food

Where do we start? How about with the starters? With a mouthwatering array of dips, warm pitta bread, olives, pickles and a hummus that could be listed as the eighth wonder of the world. For anyone who enjoys sharing a dipping plate, Bakchich really does offer one of the best options in the city.

Once you’ve dipped and dived your way through the sensational starters, you’ll be pleased to know that when it comes to mains, they offer all of the favourites of the region, from falafel to schwarma to a range of colourful salad options. That’s not all though, you’ll be pleased to know that you’ll also be treated to perfectly cooked and seasoned fries that go great with any of these choices.

On a personal note, I have friends who’ve lived in the Middle East who say that Bakchich is one of the highest quality and most authentic tastes of that type of cuisine that they’ve tasted here in the UK. Can’t say better than that in terms of authenticity.

The Price

Good value overall. Dipping plates are in the £6-8 range, with more fresh and hot pitta bread available as and when you need it, and with all the dipping options, we’re pretty sure you’ll need it! With most of their mains available in the £7-10 field, it’s quite possible for a couple to enjoy a cracking meal out for under £30.

The Bottom Line

Bakchich has a bustling feel and is popular enough that it always seems lively in there, but it usually manages to feel busy without feeling cramped. This is obviously a great combination for a place with a bit of a street food feel, and within minutes of stepping in, you’ll be feeling transported to a Middle Easter diner experience.

The staff are friendly, the service is swift and they have a range of humorous photos on the wall of celebrity “guests” to the restaurant that show a bit more of their fun character.

Bakchich is an ideal spot for an individual or a couple who wants to get in and out fairly quickly and receive quality food at a good price. It can also be a great option for a family looking to get some sharer plates and enjoy a real feast of varied colours and tastes. Well worth a visit.
